Key Characteristics
The black collar, white-bordered tail, absence of a red eye-ring together with a clear grey-coloured breast and belly and darker grey back are the main distinguishing characteristics of this dove.
Habitat
Cape Turtle Dove can be found in all habitat types throughout South Africa, occurring literally everywhere there are trees. Outside the savanna areas, they can be found in for example plantations, gardens, orchards, groves, parks or farmyards. They appear to be equally at home in indigenous vegetation or exotic, man-made habitats.
